Introducing The Songwriting Sessions
Howdy folks!
You may be among those who have been following my journey over the last few years, and if not, I'll briefly recap before getting into the exciting stuff!
A few years ago, I was in a car accident and suffered a catastrophic brain injury. Because of this, many things in my life instantly changed, including my ability to be around loud instruments. Being in a band, or even going to shows or open mics to meet other musicians to work with, became practically insurmountable. An additional challenge is only being able to use a computer screen for about 20–30 minutes a week, if that, so mixing and mastering tracks is no longer in my wheelhouse.
Where that's left me these past years is with a large collection of songs I've written, but no way to turn them into what they were supposed to be.
However, as the great Dr. Ian Malcolm once said, "Life finds a way" (iykyk).
Last year, I was having coffee with my good friend, songwriter and recording genius Dave Osti (check him out!), and while basking in the the beautiful coastal sunlight, listening to the seagulls, smelling the salt in the air, and sipping my iced americano, he brought up some tools I hadn't even heard of before that fit my situation perfectly!
By taking my lyrics, singing parts into software, painstakingly detailing the instrumentation, and relying on the angelic patience of someone helping me type my thoughts and ideas into AI voice and instrument-generation software, I was able to complete my first test song! Finding a way around and through my limitations, I was able to take what I had in my head and turn it into exactly the sound I wanted!
The life of my music found a way (cue John Williams score)!
So now, I'm excited to introduce The Songwriting Sessions.
This series will feature songs I've written that need more than my limitations will allow for, without having to sacrifice their fullness. Songs I've had written for decades but were waiting for the right band members to play them, and new songs with sounds I haven't yet found someone to play the instruments I wanted. They can now come to fruition!
The combination of software providing the accessibility needed to turn these songs into the sounds I hear in my head, and the help of my assistant to input my thoughts into the software, is a complete game changer.
I can't wait to share with you the music that's been trapped inside me!
The first song in this series is titled This One's On Me, inspired by those who have served in our military, with a scheduled release date of November 11 this year, Veterans Day.
It will be available on whichever streaming service you use, and for those who prefer to own their music, it will also be available as a digital download on my website.
Thank you all for joining me on this wild life journey, and for sharing in the excitement of this new addition to the piano, instrumentals, and raw folk recordings you've come to know and love!
